Nokian tyres are born, bred and tested far above the Arctic Circle to offer the best performance even in the most extreme conditions.

So while seasons may be changing, your choice of winter tyre remains the same: Nokian WR G2.

Ultimate slush performance
An ultra-modern asymmetrical inside/outside tread pattern gives Nokian WR G2 the diverse properties needed in Central Europe. The shape and siping of the outer shoulder make the tyre easy to handle and stable to drive on all surfaces, while the inner shoulder ensures outstanding grip.

Nokian Tyres is also the pioneer in developing new solutions for safer driving in slush: its innovative slush wedge and polished grooves thrust heavy slush and water aside to prevent aquaplaning.

Respecting the environment
Nokian WR G2 is manufactured using only low aromatic, purified oils. It also features a new rubber compound made from cool silica and canola oil, reducing rolling resistance and thus saving fuel.

EU Tyre Label and Efficiency Classes

The European Union has introduced the EU Tyre Label by Regulation (No. 1222/2009) identically and bindingly for all EU member states. It applies to passenger car tyres, light commercial vehicle tyres and heavy commercial vehicle tyres produced after 01.07.2012.

Three different areas are tested: rolling resistance, wet grip and the rolling noise the tyre makes on the road.

The following are not affected by the EU Tyre Label: retreaded tyres, professional off-road tyres, racing tyres, tyres with additional devices to improve traction such as spiked tyres, T-type emergency tyres, special tyres for fitting to vehicles first registered before 1 October 1990, tyres with a maximum authorised speed of 80 km/h, tyres for rims with a nominal diameter of 254 mm or less or 635 mm or more.

With this regulation, the European Union is pursuing the goal of promoting economic and ecological efficiency in road traffic as well as increasing road safety on the one hand, and on the other hand, granting consumers more product transparency and at the same time serving as an active decision-making aid.

Already during the incorporation, experts criticise the fact that the EU Tyre Label unfortunately only shows a few product characteristics. Apart from rolling resistance, wet grip and rolling noise, which are the main focus of EU tyre labelling, tyres have much more important and safety-relevant product characteristics, such as aquaplaning properties, driving stability, service life, braking properties on dry and wet roads, behaviour in wintry conditions, etc.

Tyre manufacturers point out that test results from various institutions and journals remain an important information medium for the end consumer. These tests usually focus on further safety-relevant product characteristics besides the EU standard qualifications for tyre labelling, which are always important for the final customer.

Lots of wheel slippage at initial acceleration in the rain.

Tyre pressure is critical with these and I found dropping 10%+ on Subaru settings made a VAST improvement on grip, particularly in damp, greasy conditions, where standard pressures gave unpredictable grip. Nokian also suggests this. These are winter tyres, not 'snow' tyres. My 9th winter on Nokians approaches.

Suberb tyre. I own a 4x4 because I live at the bottom of a 1 in 3 hill. I never got stuck with previous Avon Rangers but had too many hairy moments coming down the hill so I bought these for winter use. What a transformation, these tyres are tremendous the car can be left in 2wd where 4wd was previously needed. Will get up the hill where Land Rover Defenders have failed. It quite happily came down the hill with a well loaded unbraked trailer in 3 inch of snow. The Land Rover that followed me ten minutes later ended up in a field! About 2mm of wear over three winters. I will not be buying a new vehicle unless I can get WR G2s to fit.
30.05.2012 from Stefan G
The only thing missing from this scoring system is 'value for money'. These tyres are excellent for the money. Difficult to compare with other tyres as I haven't driven on winter tyres before these. But, they do all I would want them to do - safely, economically and competently. Timo Makkinen might have a better objective viewpoint on them, but I think they're great!
